Keflavík Airport (KEF) is about 50 kilometres from central Reykjavík. A flight landing time is not a hotel arrival time: allow for passport checks where applicable, baggage collection, waiting and the final connection to your accommodation. The airport’s official transport overview is the starting point for current options.

Airport coach: understand your final stop

Flybus connects KEF and Reykjavík’s BSÍ bus terminal. The advertised journey is around 45 minutes, before any extra hotel connection. Hotel-transfer tickets may involve changing to a smaller shuttle. Check which ticket includes your required stop and use the operator’s current timetable and pickup instructions.

Save the booking confirmation offline and keep the return booking handy. Do not assume the pickup point for your hotel is its front door.

Public bus: check the actual journey

The airport links to Strætó Route 55 information. Check the live timetable for your date and confirm the stop, fare, payment method and any connection needed to reach your accommodation. A scheduled public bus and an airport coach are separate services; compare the whole trip before choosing.

Taxi or rental car: compare the full cost

For a group, request a quote with the destination and number of people and bags. Compare the group total with individual coach tickets. If renting, confirm collection and return arrangements and read our Iceland driving guide. After a tiring flight, a transfer and a rest may be a better start than driving straight to distant attractions.

Plan the journey back as carefully as arrival

Work backwards from your airline’s check-in guidance. Include hotel pickup, possible connections, traffic, weather and rental-car return if relevant. Keep departure-day sightseeing optional. Read the seven-day itinerary for a route that brings you back west before flying.
