🔥 HOW I REVIVED CRICKET IN ICELAND WITH MY FRIENDS 🔥

By Abhishek “ABHI” Chauhan — Hospitality Pro, Cricketer (L-arm medium), Founder of Kópavogur Puffins, Owner of Indian Food Box 🇮🇸 • IG: @abiniceland

“WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?” We all ask it. For me, it was simple: bring a BIG SPORT to a small, icy island— and serve BIG FLAVOUR while we’re at it. I trained in Switzerland, worked across the USA and India, and finally set roots in Reykjavík, where I launched Indian Food Box and a crazy plan to grow cricket.

THE TURNING POINTS

  • 2015: We formed the Kópavogur Puffins — Iceland’s most spirited club. Titles followed. ENERGY followed. Community followed.
  • NIGHT PRACTICE: Midnight Sun = NO DARKNESS, NO EXCUSES. We trained when the island slept.
  • GOING INTERNATIONAL: Tours to Czechia & the UK, BBC/ESPN attention, and Iceland’s first cricket ground opening (yes, the PM cut the ribbon!).
FAST FACTS:
MY PLAYBOOK: NEVER GIVE UP. TAKE EVERYTHING (borrow, repurpose, respect). KNOW YOUR TEAM (a baker feeds squads; a designer fills stadiums). PATIENCE IS ACTION.

Today, the Puffins pack grounds and the restaurants pack tables. If you’ve just battled Icelandic wind at Esja or chased auroras in the Westfjords, refuel with curry that warms the soul:

If cricket can thrive in Iceland, your dream can thrive anywhere.
